IMAROS2 Project

In the framework of the EU-funded IMAROS 2 project, New Naval was selected from the project consortium to participate in test trials focused on the mechanical recovery of Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) in icy conditions (oil-ice). These trials took place in Kotka, Finland, hosted at XAMK’s test facility, coordinated by the Finnish Border Guard and with the presence of IMAROS 2 project partners.

The tests aimed to assess the performance of oil skimmers in recovering low-Sulphur fuel oils (LSFO) from broken ice – simulating a solid ice field with a fairway cut through the sea.

As part of the trials, New Naval provided and tested our customized ScorSkim30 Oleophilic Skimmer, along with its ancillary equipment, to evaluate its operation in these challenging conditions.
Valuable insight was gained pertaining to potential solutions for developing effective oil-recovery equipment suitable for low-Sulphur fuel oils and identifying the unique challenges posed by this type of fuel.

We would like to extend our thanks to all the IMAROS 2 partners for their excellent collaboration, and a special thanks to XAMK for their support during the trials 👏 .
Our R&D department nailed it💪and great work by George Papadakis, R&D Director, our technical team and George Gkoulionis, project account manager🙌
